Abide Family Center is set to open in June 2013 in South Eastern Uganda. It is a social welfare program being started by two college students, Kelsey Nielsen and Megan Parker. They are challenging the ‘norm’ of care provided to OVC (Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children) in Uganda. In a country where orphanages have been the “go-to” for far too long, the structure of Abide will seek to provide at-risk families in Uganda the same level of preventative care we would provide to families in the U.S. We have moved away from institutional care in the U.S. and toward family preservation, why should social welfare programs implemented in Africa be any less progressive?
How you can help? Take 1-2 minutes (depending on how quickly you can click!) and VOTE for us in the DSIC. We have the chance to win $50,000 to launch this program! It’s a free way for you to show your support.
How to vote:
Go to: http://www.dellchallenge.org/projects/abide-family-center
